Pumpkin picking is kind of a tradition here in the United States. It usually kicks off the Halloween season. They have pumpkin farms right outdoor of the city, and they usually have some outside activities for the little ones to enjoy.
I went pumpkin picking for the first time last year, and I had a blast. We went to Hank’s Pumpkintown in Water Mill. They had a maze made out of corn, wagon and tractor rides for the kiddos as well as a lot of other fun activities. Your kids can run around in the pumpkins fields and choose the perfect one. Sometimes they have people that can help the kids decorate them, but it will depend on the farm that you choose. These places open at the beginning of September, so you can actually go and have fun while the weather is still pretty good.
They also have a farmer’s market where they are selling their very own home grown vegetables and fruits.
I took my parents last year, and they were so impressed by the size of the pumpkins that they picked up some seeds and brought them back to France. Just recently, my dad had to cut them down because they were becoming huge. He now has 40 pounds of pumpkin meat, and he doesn’t know what to do with it…
I would recommend this outdoor activity to anyone that can drive. Take your children they will have an amazing time. And for my French people out here, this is something that you have to experience once.
